The novel combined originality and prescience in a way that has continued to inspire readers over the last 55 years it has also defied adaptation. "Frank Herbert’s Dune is high in the science fiction pantheon. You could see how they kind of tried to bash it into this shape, but it feels more like a publisher mandate that they worked around than any sincere desire to use the system itself. Having just wrapped up a campaign of Mutant Chronicles it also felt only tangentially related to the existing 2d20 system. If you want something this freeform and light on rules, you'd probably be better served by getting rid of even more. It's hard to think a of situation where a system like this actually works. So you can use your belief in Truth to help you jump that pit or your sense of Justice to shoot a guy (who has no hit points and is either immediately "removed from the scene" or too important for that). That's a consistent problem with the game across the board, though, as everyone has the same tiny selection of skills (more stats than skills, really) and the goofy use of Drives to utilize them. It contributes to a feeling where absolutely everything is generic just a retheme of the same basic +1 without any actual properties to make it unique or different. It's absurdly rules-light and trying to do too many wildly different things with the same barely-there system. I was in the beta and found the rules to be completely ridiculous.
